Eighteen turns nineteen –
Time to take stock.

Family

Guess whose birthday we
Remember – such
A dear – born in December?
Now her little ones
Number seven,
In
Essence, Annie’s slice of heaven.

Happy Birthday, dear OLDER sister Annie G.!!! 💗

Essential

Flowers
Render life
Aromatic,
Guiding birds and bees; they’re such
Romantics!
Are you
Noticing something sweet?
Candles? Lotion?
Even feet?

With many thanks to Rose A., Emma G., and Hannah P. for inspiring this acrostic with their gifts.

Bird of happiness

Crying hoarsely, this
Rangy bird gracefully flies
And its mystical
Nature brings hope in
Events we can’t defy.

Wednesday, December 26, 2018

Oh, shoot!

Many glass
And agate spheres
Roll in colorful
Battle; those who
Lose theirs might
Emit tears and about their
Swirlies prattle.

Thanks for the inspiration, Rose A. and Emma G.!

Comfort and joy

Step softly and
Luxuriously
In this apparel for
Pampered feet; such
Plush
Embrace
Relaxes one – a gift that’s truly
Sweet.

Thank you for the inspiration, Tina H. and Jon and Michelle P., you wonderful slipper-givers.

Hark!

Can you hear those
Awesome bells? The songs they
Render we all know well.
In this season of
Love and peace,
Let your sense
Of compassion increase. Sing we all
Noël.

Killjoy

Sliding, gliding on
Long runners, the
Era of this ride
Is mostly past. Now there’s also
Global warming; the needed snow would
Hardly last.

"Racy" verse

Upside down tipped
Pierpont’s
Sleigh; the lean,
Overworked horse
Tossed his head and cried, “Neigh!”

Inspired by our school December 21st sing-along of “Jingle Bells.”

Happy winter...

Solstice, you first winter’s day
Have the fewest hours
Of sunny
Rays and
This year you’re
Especially bright with a full moon and
Shooting stars
Tonight.

Temperate North Pole

Doused thoroughly with
Rain, the
Elves
Nimbly
Continued to
Help
Evacuate people from a
Downed plane.

The pilot had enjoyed too much Christmas cheer before taking off. His near collision with Santa just south of the North Pole occurred approximately 24 minutes after midnight. The Elves declined to be interviewed.

"Word of the Year 2018"

The predictably poisonous attitude
Of this
Xenophobic administration
Is obviously not one of
Compassion or gratitude.

Exploration

Quests to
Understand
Existence
Start
Truly with an
Innate persistence
Of curiosity; it’s a burning
Need to ask, to know, to
See.

Defense failed

Ferocious winds beat this
Enclosure; the posts were
Not deeply set. Now the
Crew is fixing that. It’ll be
Ever so stronger. You bet!

Syrup

Much of this liquid
Amber treat saturates
Pancakes making them sweet.
Lick your plate. There’s no more to
Eat.

Power

Oh, you beautiful
Utility
That makes our life so bright
And makes us so much more
Grateful when you return,
Especially at night.

And I am so grateful to my housemates for making this situation less worrisome. Thank goodness, too, for cellphone service that enabled me to post my acrostic and not break my streak of 1737 daily poems.

Ice crystals

Flat, fragile, feather-
Light bits
Are a wintry kind we
Know; they clump together
Especially in cold weather as
Something we call snow.

Economics

Citing
An old clause, the
Very wary, but merry
Elf warned
All the others of
Their labors’ true cause.

1600

Such a
House,
A
Mismanaged mess
Begs to be
Organized, but there’s
Little stress on
Intelligence; it’s unbridled
Chaos. No less.

"Where's my...?"

Finding is
One thing,
Searching, another;
Serious rummaging
Is the
Can-do
Key, say our mothers.

Memorable memos

Reducing the message by
Editing out lines means,
Dear Reader, you must divine
A sense of what will
Come up next; this truly is
Tantalizing text.

Colorful light

Performing an act of
Refraction, this sawn
Instrument was
Seen as a
Magical attraction.

Levity

Mixtures
Of miscellaneous
Textures and hues
Lend lightness to
Elevate you out of
Your blues.

With many thanks to all my Ohio textile artist friends.

Between extremes

Graded either warm or cool, it
Radiates
A calm with hints of
Yellow or blue.

Changing the rules

Surely
People can see their
Itch to win only
Turns everything back; on
Every
Front they deepen the crack,
Using their office to
Leverage divisiveness.

Shame on Scott Walker and cronies!

Shelving the nightmare

Early on, in ancient lore, these
Little folk were deemed
Fiendish, but not anymore.

Wise and wily
Is this being, from
Zephyr soft to
Ardent blast; one must always be
Respectful –
Dare not scorn lessons of the past.

Bon mot

Playful wording that’s

Nourishes readers; they
Swallow it best.

Bumbershoot

Under a
Moist and murky sky, colorful
Bursts repel the
Rain and those who carry them
Enjoy a dry and sometimes a lovely,
Leisurely stroll, until a gust
Lifts them
Away and folks are
Soaked the rest of the day.

Archosaurs

Beginning as a feathered dinosaur,
Its cousin is the crocodile; a
Reconstructed genome shows this
Discovery in
Scientific style.

We can decide

Almond-shaped, this
Mechanism of
Yours and mine

Dire times; what if we could
All agree to
Live more

Crowning touch

Hats and
Ethnic kinds of wear
Are often
Decorative,
Denoting ceremonial
Rites; they poignantly
Express traditions,
Symbolizing beauty,
Strength, and pride.
