ka-thump, ka-thump...

Apparently, ‘sparteine’ is a “class 1a antiarrhythmic agent.” The rest of the chemical explanation was beyond my comprehension. When I first played with this word, I was going solely on its definition, i.e., “a bitter, poisonous liquid alkaloid.” Perhaps I am proposing another way to deal with the heart’s irregular beats?

Sweeping that
Poisonous old
Attitude away, I
Rid my precious
Today of
Envy or dread. I let my ego’s
Ichor drain, so
New thinking can
Easily spread.

This is surely the only poem in existence inspired by " a class 1a antiarrhythmic agent." And I had to look up "ichor"---awesome word. I think "ego's ichor" is a perfect pairing.
