Forget-me-not

Vibrant had she always been, her
Energy
Rich with
Gracious wit, but
In that year her health
Sank low and
She this lifetime had to quit.
Memories of beloved flowers,
Especially those she shared,
Inspire me
Not to forget that ours is
New each day
If we care and are
Conscious of our boundless gifts. Oh,
How those tiny blue petals remind me
That she is there.

For all who knew Linda.

Beginnings

His
Unconventional,
No nonsense
Direction in these most
Recent five-score days has
Evoked much talk, much fiery
Dissension. Are we all entering a new phase?

Say "Cheese!"

Creamy cheese with
An edible rind,
Made
En France, is a
Magnificent kind of treat that paired with
Berries, apples, and grapes
Engages the
Real epicure’s hungry mind, offering
The chance for a dreamy escape.

Food

Cooked
Or fresh, they’re
Meant for
Eating; we
Savor
Them at mealtime meetings.
In times
Between they are a snack,
Light and
Easily held in a
Sack.

Roasted...YUM!

Gastronomy includes this
Allium of spear-shaped cloves and
Rich aroma, easily grown, and,
Like shallot, onion, chive, and leek,
It can
Cause the consumer’s breath to reek.

Unbalanced

Balance is what this
Rude, crude leader doesn’t
Understand; his heavy hand in
This democracy is the
Epitome of hypocrisy.

Faces

Perception forms
A pair of
Recognized
Eyes and an
Impish mouth into a face
Devised
Of anything,
Little or big, and
In that the viewer
A fun image twigs.

Thank you for today’s word, Rose A.

Patient with people has been this
Lovely
Ancient orb, but
Not much longer if the
Earth’s health we continue
To ignore.

Biopsy

Just when
Everyone’s ‘perfect’ life
Annoys us to the point of envy,
Let’s
Open to
Understanding ourselves and
See clearly the green cancer of
Yearning.

Drooping branches
Rich with stone fruit

Promise mouthwatering juiciness;
Each kind is worth a try.

Realization

Grasper of knowledge, let
No one choose for you.
Observe what is told, but
Sift and inquire. Look deep
Into yourself to
See how you’re inspired.

When I hear the Gnostic Gospels referred to as heretical text, I cringe at the power of one group of men to dictate to all people how to be and to think. The word ‘heresy’ traces back to a Greek verb meaning “to take or grasp.” Those who chose to espouse a body of knowledge different from the early Christians were labeled heretics, the word thus taking on an ominous meaning. Shouldn’t knowledge be a personal choice?

As told...

Solemnly, skillfully
Embalming their
Precious one,
United in grief, they
Lay his body in the tomb.
Could anyone
Have known the stone would be
Rolled away and the space found
Empty, lifting their gloom?

Good Friday

Sad and solemn events
Of a dark afternoon
Mean for many
Believers that the gloom
Eventually lightens in
Resurrection’s bloom.

Plays these days at a

Leading this country
On with his yo-yo spiel. Oh

Happy 101st Birthday, Beverly!

Clearly Cleary is a
Legend
As her life and writing
Show. Today
She’ll likely celebrate
In her own style with
Carrot cake.

How I wish I had been a reader as a child! Beverly Cleary is so right about guiding children to love to read, not to do it because it is required. Reading was a challenge for me and while I enjoyed school and learning, I never read for pleasure until my late teens. Even then, there just didn’t seem enough time for it. It wasn’t until I had children of my own that I read the Ramona books and other classics by Cleary. I am so grateful that my daughters have always been avid readers. In my work as a literacy tutor, every day I try gently to instill in my young students a love of reading. Oh, the places you can go in books!

The moose whisperer

Men with compassion ventured
Out
On thin ice to rescue a weak calf that
Struggled for life. For their heroic
Efforts, will a poem suffice?

Bird, painting, novel

Glide into the story
Of this tethered
Little bird, the
Dutch puttertje, and
Feed on seeds of
Intimate,
Never-ending passion,
Connecting on a
Higher plane with human compassion.

Changing the rules

Clearing the path for their man,
How
Is this not political? Their
Conceit in devising such
A deceit is downright diabolical. It’s
No longer the
Exception, this now
Rampant deception.
Yes, it IS unethical!

Songbird

In Latin as regulus, this
Natty little passerine, this

Odonata

Darting,
Resilient,
Astoundingly brilliant, they
Give many
Oders a thrill.
No longer swimming naiads, they
Fly every which way at will; their
Lightning iridescence
Inspires awe and story,
Especially those ancestor
Specimens of ancient Permian glory.
