Norwegians, during WWII, wore

Ever, with this mark. Their clever
Ruse helped get them through the dark.

While I worked as an au pair in Norway, I learned that many Norwegians had worn a piece of birch bark on their coats to signify in a quiet way they would never bow down to the Third Reich. The Norwegian word for birch bark is “never.”
